How Long Does It Take Kay Jewelers to Resize a Ring

Hi, Bees! My fiancé surprised me with a gorgeous new engagement ring for Christmas and I adore it. However, it is too loose (I lost a lot a weight since he bought my original engagement ring and he didn't want to ruin the surprise by asking me for my new ring size, so he just guessed) and it needs to be resized. We are going to get it resized at Kay Jewelers, which is where he bought it. Has anyone else had their ring resized there? How was your experience? How long should I expect it to take? Thank you in advance!

That is where mine is from as well .. Only bad thing is they have to send it out for it to be done. It can take up to two weeks. The times I have taken mine is has come back in just over a week 🙂

Yup I got mine resized there and I'm about to take my band there to be resized. Usually takes about 10-14 days but I've had good experiences and resizing is free with the warrenty.

I had mine resizes at Peoples (similar store) and it also takes 2 weeks. I guess you have your former ering to wear until then!

Could we see pics of both the old and new ring? I am intrigued!

I'm curious how much it cost to have a ring resized at Kay? I have one I'd like to go up half a size on. If someone could post or PM me, much obliged.

Kay isn't a standardized experience because it's a chain. Some of my friends have bought and altered jewelry there without incident. My SO, however, had a ring resized there, getting it appraised before and after. It went in with a black diamond and came out with black glass, and the complaint was never taken seriously by police or even investigated. It's on a store-by-store basis, but you know, buyer beware.

Scintillante: Here is my new ring! It's a Leo diamond…it's simple, but it sparkles like crazy! I know it looks like it fits in the picture, but it's just loose enough that it slides off my finger if I shake my hand too much. I don't have a picture of my original ring on my computer, but it's also a solitaire.

may202016bride:  Love your ring! I got my ring at Kays, and it has been my own little monster since then. I'm actually looking to get a new one now. (You can read through my old posts if you're curious.) Fortunately, the worst part was due to pave stones, which you don't have, so that's helpful!

Mine had to be sized down a few sizes, which messed up the alignment of the pave stones and now some have fallen out. As PPs have said, it has to be sent out, so it takes a few weeks (for us) and mine came back with a huge gash in the white gold and a ton of scratches in the band. I was very distressed but the store associates were nice enough to clean and buff out the ring and make it look nice again as much as they could.

I know some people have great luck with Kay, but we weren't one of them. However, if all you need is resizing, I'm sure you'll be just fine! Your ring is lovely!

Beautiful ring, congrats!! Have you ever heard of sizing beads? I had two soldered inside my ring, they don't affect the look of the ring at all and also you don't have to have it cut and gold removed to size it.  If you are concerned about your ring sizing done at Kay's (or any place else) your not alone, Ive noticed most of these "mall jewelry stores" employes are only sales people and noone who actually works on jewelry repair. Which is why they send it out  you will be without your ring a few weeks, like a previous bee said.  I only feel comfortable with a more reputable jeweler, I see the appeal of a Free sizing but I would be too concerned about my diamond being switched for a fake Or even a lesser quality diamond. Unfortunately these things do happen. I take my jewelry to a store where they do any work or cleaning right in front of the customers. My sizing beads only cost me $15.  I had my 6.25 sized down to a 6. I'll attach a pic so you can see what they look like.  Good luck

I had my engagement ring and another RHR sized at Kay with absolutely no problem. When I took my engagement ring in, I'd actually lost a stone, and figured I might as well conquer two birds with one visit. They said it might take up to a month, but it took just about a week. I am super happy with them.

Kay takes 10-14 days to resize depending on the workload. They send the work to their local Jared's repairshop (sister store). It costs anywhere from $40-$60 to have a ring made larger, depending on how many sizes up you are going. It is about $35-$40 to size down.
